Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority - Approaches to Community Wellbeing
Karyn Meekis is the Acting Associate Director for Approaches to Community Wellbeing (ACW) at the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA). A proud member of the Kiowa Nation in Oklahoma, she has spent 30 years serving remote northern First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario as a community steward, schoolteacher, and nurse.
With extensive experience in supervisory and management roles, Karyn has contributed to nursing program development in home and community care, primary care, nursing transfer, pandemic coordination, and public health. She is dedicated to health equity, advocating for compassionate, accessible healthcare that empowers individuals and communities.
Living in Thunder Bay, ON, with her husband of 29 years and their three adult children, all Deer Lake First Nation members, Karyn remains committed to building strong, trusting relationships with First Nations communities. She approaches her work with humility, a willingness to learn, and a passion for service.
