Acting Raising Our Children Manager – Approaches to Community Wellbeing

April Kakekagumick is the Acting Raising Our Children Manager at the Sioux Lookout First Nation Health Authority. A proud member of North Spirit Lake First Nation in Ontario, she is dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of children and families in First Nation communities. With a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from Lakehead University, April brings a strong clinical background to her current leadership role.
Before stepping into management, April worked for three years as an emergency and acute care nurse, gaining valuable experience in providing care to individuals of all age groups. April’s diverse nursing experience has given her a deep understanding of the unique healthcare needs of children in Northwestern Ontario, as well as the importance of culturally safe and community-based care, particularly within Indigenous populations.
Passionate about improving pediatric healthcare access and outcomes, April continues to advocate for the wellbeing of children and families in her community and is committed to furthering her impact in Indigenous health care.
