Irene Drmic is the Clinical Director of the MiCare Extensive Needs Service at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH). She is a Clinical Psychologist with extensive clinical and research experience working with children, adolescents and families in the areas of neurodevelopment, genetics and mental health. She was previously the Program Psychologist for the MCH Autism Program, and prior to that Director of the Autism Research Unit at the Hospital for Sick Children. Currently, she serves as the Clinical Research Lead for the McMaster Autism Research Team and Chair of the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Center Research Working Group. She is passionate about integrating research and clinical services in order to reduce the research-to-practice gap to support meaningful research that advances care. She engages in clinical intervention research and currently co-leads the Family Check Up-Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) feasibility study, an intervention developed to decrease childhood emotional and behavioral problems and improve caregiver well-being. She previously served on a provincial government committee, the Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Expert Committee, to advise on evidence-based research on effective clinical practices, services and supports for children with ASD and their families.
